Each day our homeschool runs on its daily schedule. I incorporate all the required set work with the kid's chosen theme of the week as well as two additional kid chosen electives. We follow our daily schedule quite precisely, I ensure we get through all our work while still having fun. However, I must say this term has been challenging. The work load has significantly increased from last year and I feel like I've lost my teaching mojo for some reason. So this week it's business unusual. We will still keep to our weekly set work, but I'm throwing in a whole lot of random fun; for no reason other than I feel way too uptight.
This week I want to let the kids' creativity lead the way. If this means that we take a swim in the middle of the school day or take a bike ride while collecting wild flowers, then so be it. Creativity and fun will be our guide. I've also prepared a few explosion experiments 9the kids love these), baking, lots of crafts and coloring in. Im keeping in mind that all work and no play make for a dull day.
The premise of my school has always been learning by experience and this week we will really be infusing that ethos into our lessons. We are going to go with the flow and see where that takes us and what we learn along the way! I want to instil a love for learning, creativity and curiosity; a love of knowledge. I never want school to get in the way of our learning and I never want their care free, inquisitive spirits to die down.
After all, that is what makes for great thinkers and I want them to learn how to think; not what to think!
