I was saddened to hear the news of a close friend’s nephew who received a devastating diagnosis from doctors a couple weeks ago. I will share more about his journey as soon as I am able to do so. All I can say to any parent with a child who has received any kind of diagnosis is to keep the faith. Listen to your medical team, do your own research but most of all never stop believing that your child can and will be healed.
Maintaining a positive outlook will shape your child’s beliefs on healing. The other day we went to the Home of the Chicken Pie and my son told me about a little boy he met there who also has asthma. My son has been diagnosed as a ‘severe asthmatic’. He said the little boy told him that his asthma is really bad and they don’t think he will ever outgrow the symptoms. My boy told him to keep on believing for the best because he also has asthma but is stronger now than ever. The little boy responded by saying ‘Maybe for you but not for me.’ I wonder how many adults told this little boy he would never be well and I wonder if we never believed in our sons healing if he would never have believed either. While he is not completely healed I have never stopped believing that one day he will be, and neither has he.
We have had specialists say our son would never outgrow his asthma, would never be able to attend school and would never play sport. I remember a time where he couldn’t even walk around the playground at the mall without dripping with sweat, wheezing and his heart racing. Today he is thriving at his new school, a top athlete at his soccer club, and runs on soccer fields daily.
It’s a long road, keep believing and know I am praying for you, whoever you may be.
